A brief history of Calabria

The ancient Hellenic civilization colonized the Calabrian coast and made it a province of that great empire which ruled over the world. Remains of ancient temples consecrated to the gods, exquisite works of art, whole towns still permeated with elements of Greek culture are only a few examples of the extraordinary heritage the Greek have left in this region. The Bronzi of Riace are a superlative example of a civilization at the height of its splendour. Also a great many architectural and cultural vestiges of Roman, Gothic, Byzantine, Norman, Angevin and Aragonese civilizations are still to be found in our region.
